Background

Let us tell you a little about the salt before you head in for your first session. You’re about to experience what is called Halotherapy or Salt Therapy.

Our goal here is to recreate the environment inside of a salt mine. That’s where the whole idea started! Back in the 1840 in Poland, there was a scientist studying all different kinds of miners. They were seeing coal miners dying of black lung, other ore miners having different respiratory issues, but the salt miners were living into old age with relatively few health problems. That’s when they first figured out that something just a little bit different was happening in the salt mines.

Halotherapy History

A little while later, in the 1850’s, they established breathing clinics down in the salt mines. They were taking kids with asthma, people with bronchitis, and other issues down into these active working salt mines, spending time there breathing in the salt, and seeing improvements with their conditions. That was almost 200 years ago, and it’s changed a little bit since then. The idea grew slowly in Poland and then the USSR, and in the 1960’s the Soviets were putting salt breathing clinics in their respiratory hospitals. When the Soviet Union fell, Halotherapy started to spread all over the world! Halotherapy has really caught on in Australia, it’s much more familiar in Eastern Europe, but just got to the US in the last 10 years or so. So we’re still trying to introduce the concept and let everyone here know what it is and what it does.
